Today was more interesting. I did rounds with Dr. Martin and then went to clinic again. This time in clinic I was able to see two very different patients, one was really sad but I'm not allowed to say why. I also got to watch the Baley play tests. That was pretty cool because we had learned a small amount of it in Psychology this year, but it was really interesting to see it conducted with the baby. It's basically a series of tasks and quiz like activities for the child to see where they are on a maturity scale in comparison to other children their age. After that there was a meeting in the neonatalogy department, but I was sick of sitting around in meetings so I asked if I could go back up to the step-down unit. Dr. Martin said absolutely, thankfully. So I went and followed a nurse who I had been with last week and seen basically every day. She's the charge nurse, I'm not totally sure what that means, but she was really nice and taught me a lot. Also, I was sitting at the nurses station once today and Alana Arnold's sister walked in, so that was really random. And then about a half hour or so before I left, I was sitting at a different nurses station and Amanda Trau walked in, so it was a super random day at UH.

Today and Yesterday
Yesterday was pretty boring at the hospital, Dr. Martin met with lawyers the whole day so I was with Dr. Yao and other nurses again. I did rounds on the whole floor, not something new or different. I like doing rounds though because I feel like I'm starting to understand what abbreviations and numbers that the doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners use. I also feel like I'm starting to know each baby's case. After rounds I stayed in the unit with the nurse that was in charge for the day. Since it was a slow day she had a lot of stuff to catch up on. It was pretty boring because we watched a CPR and defibrillator video. It was interesting in some parts though because it got pretty detailed about what to do in different situations. Before the video, she took me in the treatment room and unfortunately I got to watch a circumcision. That was a little bit uncomfortable, but still another thing that's part of a lot of male babies stays at the unit.
