Yesterday I worked with various ages of young kids; 5-7years and 8-12 year olds. Some where as young as 4 years old. Luckily, I was working with about seven coaches; they all had different ways of teaching. The kids were spread over 6 soccer fields. I took much more footage than I had anticipated. Surprisingly, the younger kids were very aware of the rules of the game, both boys and girls. They knew where the goal was; what to do without the ball and they created space for each other. This was a relatively high level of playing. I was surprised because the kids played organized soccer; I enjoyed working with them.
Today, I will be working with an older group of kids 13- 16 years old. I do not know what to expect. In soccer its the ability that counts and rather than age, so there is no telling what level of play I will be working with. The aim is to get a good variety of plays and show the kids how to enjoy playing soccer.
So far so good, my sponsor is really into the project and I have been working with some highly qualified coaches. Hence, I trust that my final presentation will in many ways embody their views and the ways of teaching development soccer.
