First week finished!
Well, I've made it through my first week with 17 second graders. It has actually been extremely rewarding and I'm really enjoying working with the kids. According to them, I'd make a great teacher so hopefully I'm doing something right! Thursday and Friday had a lot going on. Thursday consisted of a lot of classroom time, allowing the kids to start presenting their endangered animals projects. We went to the 1st grade musical which was one of the cutest things I have seen in a very long time. It seemed like yesterday that I was in one of those 1st grade musicals! (Cliché...I know). Friday was full of more presentations, a little bit of poetry, swimming, and music class. The kids (as well as the teachers) got very antsy and anxious being in the heat, but somehow we seemed to manage. I had some busy work to get done, mainly typing up some of the kids poetry for their portfolios. I will probably start assembling their portfolios for them next week. This week basically finishes their study on endangered animals. Next week we start studying Cleveland, so we will be spending a lot of time at the Gries center which I look forward to. Also next week the kids have thier donut sale, so I look forward to helping them understand the concept of raising money, as well as working on their math skills in working with change and money. It is so crazy to see how much work gets done in a second grade classroom. The kids can only focus for so long, so we are constantly changing activities and lessons. It's a lot to keep up with, but I'm really enjoying it!
