I'm working at UH in random places in outpatient clinics this week.  Monday was very boring, all I did was follow a nurse around and watch her take vitals of random patients.  It was a pretty slow day so there weren't a lot of procedures or anything going on.  I saw one guy walk in and met with the infectious disease doctor.  He had a weird portable IV type thing that was in his right arm.  The doctor let me sit in on their appointment so I got to see him take out the 44 cm long pick line that went all the way up his arm and almost into his heart.  It gave him constant antibiotics for three weeks, and it was successful so he was able to have it removed and go home and start taking regular antibiotics in pill form.  That was about the only exciting thing on Monday.  Tuesday was better, a little bit more exciting.  It was also a slow day, but I sat in with one of Dr. Leizman's appointments with a patient. It was about the same as when I go to the doctor, but the patient was like 70. After that there wasn't anything to watch so we wandered to another clinic and found a couple procedures.  I watched two colonoscopies, I know gross, but it was kind of cool.  One of them was healthy, but the other had something that was pretty unidentifiable at the time so the doctor is now waiting for the biopsy of the colon to determine what it was.  Next week should start to get more exciting because I'm working in the neonatal intensive care unit.
