Dreary Monday turned out to be better than expected
Surprisingly, today was the first day that I got to visit the Music class since the start of my project at the school. It has been so that I have missed the days when there is music class and that the days that I am here, there is no music class or they are on a fieldtrip. I started off the morning with the Music class group of kids with whom we all went to a poetry workshop in the big gym. I must say, the workshop was rather interesting- starting from forming combinations of words that didn't go together (i.e. warm ice cream) and ending with singing poems we made up on the way to the rhythm of the drums. I found very exciting the fact that as a volunteer/intern, I was chosen to be the "drummer" and show off my music skills. Aside from that, I got the pleasure of hearing the music teacher sing some opera to the poems and a senior volunteer beatbox to the rhythm of the drums and complement the poem. Following the workshop, we went back to the music classroom to listen to Adele's "Someone Like You" and compare the tone, feeling, rhythm and the essence of it to an opera piece. Aside from music class and the poetry workshop though, the day went by pretty casually as it usually does with me doing everything and anything ranging from writing to reading to math.
