The Beginning
So now I ll talk about the beginning of the week was as I started off my project. Since I had already visited the school before, I had already known some of the kids- or at least remembered them visually. To my surprise, they didn't remember me. However all of them were still really friendly and accepting in welcoming me as a new staff member or "assistant teacher" and tutor. First things first, I had to spend my first day in the office basically helping out my sponsor with small tasks. While I was doing those, he created a set schedule for me that I could go off of for the whole 4 weeks. In addition, he made me an official name tag. It made me feel very legit :) I started to go by Ms.K since its impossible to pronounce my last name. Some kids preferred to call me Ms. Aziza though for some reason. Already on the 2nd day I started to get into my actual project. With a set schedule I started off going to Art Class. After Art class I switched over to Writing class for a little bit and then Reading and Writing after that until the end of the day. Since I primarily work with K, 1 and 2 grades there is nothing complicated about the classes. In general, its very repeating and I rotate in each class. In the beginning of the week I go to Art first thing in the morning, then writing, reading, and math. At the end of day I have some free time (30 minutes or so) to just chill in my office until I have to go aftercare or so called Youth Core where kids do homework and then play. I stay there till 5 everyday for the most part. Towards the end of week, my schedule is a little different since I rotate into Music instead of Art and Math and Writing with the Junior Kids. Also, I help out with planning the pizza sale that happens every Friday and then help at the actual pizza sale of Friday. After dismissal time, at 3, I generally sit around with the same group of kids and help them with homework, tutor them and even sometimes just chat with them if they are done with their work.
