May 9th- Wednesday
Wednesday was a very busy day. I realized I seem to attract the troublemakers. Today we went outside with the class for the first time. Everybody definitely got a bit too excited but it was fun. I enjoyed playing the role of mommy but it got a little tiring to pull kids up to get on the monkey bars. Right before that, we had been making our food plates in class. We made guacamole out of green play-doe which we made ourselves. I must say now all the kids definitely know me by name. Not a moment goes by when I walk in the hallway that I don't hear, "Hi Ms.K!". Not a day goes by without unexpected and sudden hugs from students who run out of their lines just to give me a hug. Then I went to writing to work with a little girl named Aaliyah one on one with her worksheet. After that I switched around at reading with several students. I read to them and they read to me from their book boxes. Finally, I helped the kids around with their math worksheets as they are preparing for their placement tests. In Youth Core or after care, I gave a short little speech about how important it is to prepare for the future in terms of your academic career being a figure that the kids can relate to. I talked about what it was like at Hawken, what it was like to challenge myself and how it prepared me for college with all that hard work that I had done throughout high school.
