So day one. I tried to post this yesterday but my internet was acting screwing. I'm currently working with the advancement committee on auction planning as part of my hybrid advancement/journalism project. The auction is this weekend so things were pretty crazy in the office. The first part of the day was spent mostly tagging items with prices and whatnot. Partway through the day, I had a bit of a scare when I was going through the donated jewelry and discovered an empty jewelry box which was supposed to contain a diamond necklace. As I began to hyperventilate, my firsts thoughts were "oh great, I've been here less than four hours and I've already lost a really expensive piece of jewelry, can I get fired from my project?!". Luckily, someone else had just moved it so I was able to calm my breathing before an inhaler was necessary.
The rest of my day consisted of observing various committee heads reconnoiter, during which I discovered how the week before an auction is like tech week for advancement committees, and lots of double checking various guest lists, which gave me a few laughs at some of the utterly ridiculous names. It was an over all enjoyable first day, mainly because the team I was working with was a lot of fun.
