Just Keep Swimming...

Today was another productive day.  I spent a large portion of the day creating bid sheets for the auction this weekend.  This task, while somewhat tedious, was strangely calming.  After I completed that task, I worked with the decoration committee to finalize the decoration plans.  I also helped create some of the flowers that will be hung up at the event.  Luckily, there was little art skill involved in this process, so I was able to successfully make close to fifteen flowers.

So far in my project, I've learned some really interesting lessons on both fundraising and event planning.  For example, today was the day that we had to give the final number of guests to the caterers and cement the number of tables we ordered.  Since not all of the invited guests had RSVP'd, I was able to observe my team leaders discuss the proper number of people to assume would actually come to the event and the correct number of dinners and tables to order.  I had the opportunity to learn more about a particular facet of event planning I don't usually think about.  In general, I've realized how much more goes into event planning than I had initially realized, especially if it's a fundraiser.  Every detail must be thought out, including where to seat people so that they feel inclined to donate more money.
