SORRY WE FORGOT TO POST

April 30, 2012
We sat in an office (at HB) looking at a computer screen trying to figure out how to even start our project. For those who don’t know we are supposed to be making a information DVD about the college process for students who do not have as resourceful college counselors as we are privileged to have at independent schools. We are very confused at this point. This is turning out to be a little bit more work than we imagined it would be. At this point we are really considering changing the direction of our project. We realized that it was way too much work to make a video and an informative book to go along with it.  When we were writing our proposal, we were mainly thinking about how much this will help underprivileged teenagers.  We sat in the office dumbfounded, thinking “Whoa college counselors do a lot of work.”  We didn’t exactly think it was going to be a walk in the park but we also didn’t expect for it to be this much work. We need to talk to Ms. Gray like pronto. We are sure she can give us some guidance with our issue.  We don’t want to give up the project, just revise it.

So we talked Ms. Gray and she basically reaffirmed that this project is going to help people in the long run and she gave us permission to revise the original project.  We realized we did not have enough time to actually film a how to video then edit it and put it together so we decided instead of making the video we would just make a book and distribute it to Cleveland Public School counselors. The goal is for the counselors to actually give our student to student handbook to the students.  We went back to the office with a fresh feeling of hope.  So we typed some more and decided just to make a handbook.  We finished two documents on the type of schools, the different type of degrees and financial aid. We plan to interview a couple of students soon to get an idea of what they feel could have been more helpful in their college process. Their input will influence the way we structure our handbook.

We definitely have the “it’s Friday” feeling. Today seemed to move as slow as molasses.  We typed typed, typed, typed some more and finally typed.  Right now we are tired of typing. The best part of the day was lunch. Hathaway Brown has the best lunch. I haven’t had the chance to eat real lunch food in four years. But anyway, as you can probably tell we sometimes get bored with our project. We are looking forward to actually getting out in the mix and interviewing students and making our book. We are on track with our schedule and should be done with typing the information by next Friday. That will leave us with two weeks to do interviews and put the book together. We really want this to work out.

Today Keniece had an AP Psychology test and I had to leave early to go to a physical therapy appointment.  I polished up a financial aid document, and started two documents about visiting college.  Today really wasn’t a productive day considering it was such a short day.

We weren’t present project Wednesday.  Keniece had another AP exam that lasted four hours and I had to go to a doctor’s appointment that took longer than expected.  By the time we finished the things we had to do it was about three o’clock and it was pointless even going in to project.
